Starting on 9 April 2013, the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig and the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg will be exhibiting works by Wolfgang Ellenrieder, professor of fine art at the HBK Braunschweig.

The works by Wolfgang Ellenrieder presented in this exhibition explore the boundaries between painting, prints and sculpture, between two-dimensional surface and three-dimensional space, and in doing so, puts the visitor’s conventional way of seeing to the test:

“Several works will be on show in the exhibition that do not fit into the usual pigeonholes on first glance. On the one hand, there are sections in the works that are not painted in the conventional sense but printed in different ways instead. Painting also emerges from the two-dimensional surface on the other, incorporating the real space. Is it still a painting or already a sculpture; is it an original or a reproduction. I am interested in such hybrid moments and this characterises many of the pieces that are on show,” the artist says.

This hybrid exhibition approach is heightened by the presentation of the works in two spaces that differ greatly from each other: the white cube of the HBK-Galerie and the historic rooms of the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg.

The exhibition in both venues will be opened on 9 April 2013 at 6pm in the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg and afterwards at 8pm in the Galerie der HBK Braunschweig. The speakers will include the director of the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg, Professor Dr. Susanne Pfleger; HBK president Professor Dr. Hubertus v. Amelunxen; as well as Tobias Henkel, director of the Stiftung Braunschweigischer Kulturbesitz.

A shuttle bus will be provided for the trip between the HBK Braunschweig and the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg:
