CGAC is pleased
to announce the celebration of its tenth anniversary, which will take
place at its premises in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, on Monday
September 29th, 2003. The same day CGAC will open 6 exhibition projects
with artists such as Karin Sander, Roland Fischer, João Onofre, Hubbard
and Birchler, Vicente Blanco and Marina Abramovic.
Karin Sander. 1:9, CGAC 2003
30th September - 14th December. Hall. Karin Sander's interventions
(Bensberg, Germany, 1957) are focused on neighbouring spaces with the
purpose of discovering something that is hidden or remains unnoticed. Her
presentation at CGAC is the sculpture project Body Scans, which consists
of scanning an indefinite number of visitors inside a complex machine. The
final result is an accurate copy of each person at a 1:9 scale.
Roland Fischer. Camino
30th September - 7th December. First floor. Roland Fischer (Munich,
Germany, 1958) is one of the most unique photographers of his generation.
He always works with series, in which he portrays façades, cathedrals as
well as anonymous and popular characters. At CGAC he will present a
specific project including a collective portrait of one thousand and fifty
pilgrims taken in Santiago de Compostela, alongside the architectural
portraits of emblematic buildings related to the Road to Santiago. This
exhibition will be taken later to Sala Amós Salvador de Logroño, Centro de
Arte Caja de Burgos and Dombergmuseum Freising.
Vicente Blanco
30th September - 14th December. Ground floor. Vicente Blanco (Santiago de
Compostela, 1974) will present his latest x{2013} vÃdeos, wall-paintings, photos
and drawingsx{2013} production at CGAC, where one can observe the influence of
contemporary icons, withdrawn from publicity and television. By means of
animation he reconstructs daily situations with a strong narrative
component. The exhibition will be taken later to the Espacio Uno at the
Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofÃa, in Madrid.
Teresa Hubbard e Alexander Birchler. Eight
30th September - 14th December. Double Space. Teresa Hubbard (Dublin,
Ireland, 1965) and Alexander Birchler (Baden, Switzerland, 1962) stem from
cinema and literature as references in order to build up narrative stories
on daily situations. Some of the main features of their work, such as the
psychological and metaphoric tone, are observable in the video Eight, made
in 2001, which will be presented at CGAC together with ten photographs.
The works belong to CGAC's Collection.
João Onofre. Nothing Will Go Wrong
30th September - 10th December. Basement Floor. João Onofre (Lisbon,
Portugal, 1976) pertains to the most recent generation of Portuguese
artists. Since the early years of his career, he has focused on video,
producing works that study the behaviour of individuals in the processes
of representation and actuation, triggering a tension that takes us by
surprise due to the unpredictability of their actions. He will present a
selection of his latest video-creations at CGAC, conceived from 2000 to
2003.
Marina Abramovic . Student Body
29th September - November. Auditorium. Marina Abramovic (Belgrade, 1946)
is one of the most important performance artists. On the occasion of the
workshop Cleaning the House, organised by CGAC in 2002, we had the idea of
publishing the book Marina Abramovic . Student Body in collaboration with
the publishing house Charta. After the presentation of the book, dedicated
to the students who participated in the workshops, Abramovic will show us
the most surprising productions of some of them.
