The exhibition features works of five internationally renowned artists: Itziar Okariz (SP), Philippe Meste (FR), Erik van Lieshout (NL), Kevin van Braak (NL) and Atelier Van Lieshout (NL). They are known to go to extremes, and won't hesitate to stretch or even break personal, ethical and even moral boundaries.
This summer AVL-Mundo, founded by artist Joep van Lieshout, will present its disruptive, distorting and border-crossing inaugural exhibition Territory. Territory will feature works of five internationally renowned artists: Itziar Okariz (SP), Philippe Meste (FR), Erik van Lieshout (NL), Kevin van Braak (NL) and Atelier Van Lieshout (NL).
The exhibition will kick off with a grand opening party on the 8th of June.
Just outside the bustle of the city, tucked between the fringes of the port of Rotterdam, are the creative headquarters of AVL-Mundo. During the summer months, this former feed mill will host the exhibition Territory, showing five internationally renowned artists: Itziar Okariz (SP), Philippe Meste (FR), Erik van Lieshout (NL), Kevin van Braak (NL) and Atelier Van Lieshout (NL). In addition, there will be a programme of events, performances, guided tours, films, concerts and dinners.
Territory is disconcerting, rough and disruptive. Borders and boundaries are being determined and delineated. The artists involved are known to go to extremes, and won’t hesitate to stretch or even break personal, ethical and even moral boundaries.
The exhibition could be found shocking, but asserts the mission of the foundation AVL-Mundo which is founded by the artist Joep Van Lieshout and aims to support culture, in the broadest sense of the term. From their headquarters various activities will be organized, from large utopian projects to (un)desired interventions. Also located within this creative haven is the studio of Atelier Van Lieshout. Here, one can wander amidst the Atelier’s installations, where they are designed and produced. During Territory Atelier Van Lieshout will invite visitors to experience both new and existing works, as well as work-in-progress.
Curator of the show is Joep van Lieshout, who chose the artists, which logically ensures a connection with Atelier Van Lieshout. And, in the same way that Atelier Van Lieshout challenges issues, one can also expect the exhibition to be opinionated and slightly anarchic.
Territory runs parallel to the exhibition XXXL Painting of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in the onderzeebootloods (Submarine Wharf). Located on Heijplaat, opposite the AVL site. Both exhibitions open their doors the 8th of June.
