Objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear. This cycle consists of five very different artistic projects that share a similar approach to reality. The intention is to disconcert the viewer and raise a number of questions for him or her to consider. The title of the cycle, Angle of vision: 143°, refers to the unusual angle or viewpoint from which the artist, and the viewer, gets a broader perspective, free from the prejudices of conventional values.

The Joan Miró Foundation launched the new season's cycle of exhibitions in the
Espai 13, Angle of vision: 143°, selected by Montse Badia, art critic and
exhibition curator. The cycle will kick off with "Pin-pan-pum" by Luis Bisbe.
This cycle consists of five very different artistic projects that share a
similar approach to reality. The intention is to disconcert the viewer and
raise a number of questions for him or her to consider. The title of the
cycle, Angle of vision: 143°, refers to the unusual angle or viewpoint from
which the artist, and the viewer, gets a broader perspective, free from the
prejudices of conventional values. The subtitle, "Objects in the rear view
mirror are closer than they appear", is a warning that often appears on
rear-view mirrors in cars and refers to the optical distortion that drivers
need to take into account in order to drive safely.
The work of the artists taking part in the cycle explores new perspectives, in
an approach to the world around them from out-of-the-ordinary points of view.
They believe in the possibility of difference and therefore accept discussion
and questioning.
The projects, all of which are designed specifically for the Espai 13, use
video, installation or other media to produce the conceptual works in which
the participation of the public is a fundamental element.
Whether employing irony, political commitment, ingenuity or a taste for the
absurd, the artists taking part - Luis Bisbe, Jens Haaning, Antonio Ortega,
Claude Closky and Simon Starling - show how there is a tendency to structure
each person's surroundings on the basis of a scale of values that is
determined by society, and demonstrate how these values can be changed, or at
least challenged, instead of being taken as absolutes.
