DIA ART FOUNDATION INVITES PUBLIC TO STREAMSIDE DAY CELEBRATION
AND TO BE PART OF PIERRE HUYGHE'S FILM "STREAMSIDE DAY FOLLIES"
Streamside Knolls, Fishkill, New York
New York, NY-Dia Art Foundation invites the public to celebrate
the founding of a new community called Streamside Knolls, in
Fishkill, New York, and to be part of artist Pierre Huyghe's
film project, "Streamside Day Follies." A parade, animal
costumes, music, and a barbeque dinner with hot dogs and
hamburgers, corn on the cob, pumpkin pies, ice cream, lemonade,
and green cotton candy are some of the highlights of this
celebration at Streamside Knolls, a new residential development.
"Streamside Day Celebration" is free and open to the public (See
"Event Details," below).
"Streamside Day Celebration" will begin with the planting of a
tree. Children will be offered animal costumes to wear for the
event. At 3:30 pm, a parade with a fire engine, police car, mail
truck, school bus, two pick-up truck floats, and an ice-cream
truck will travel though Streamside Knolls. People can enjoy an
ice cream while listening to welcoming remarks. Around 5:30 pm
dinner will be served, followed by a Streamside Day Cake. The
public is welcome to take pictures throughout the event.
The Project
In describing the background of the project, Pierre Huyghe says,
"We are in the year 01, the beginning of a story which you are
already a part of. Between the mountains and the bank of the
Hudson River, a village is forming in the forest. Families are
moving in, construction of streets and houses is almost
complete, gardens are growing, and soon the playgrounds will be
filled."
Huyghe has gained international prominence for works that
explore reality and fiction, memory and history. Incorporating
film, sculpture, sound, and architecture in his diverse works,
the artist intervenes in familiar narrative structures to
investigate the construction of collective and individual
identities. In 2001, Huyghe was awarded the Special Prize of the
Jury at the Venice Biennale.
"Streamside Day Celebration" and the resulting film project,
"Streamside Day Follies," are made possible by Marian Goodman
Gallery, in association with Minetta Brook and with the
cooperation of AVR Realty, Town of Fishkill, and the Streamside
Knolls Homeowners Association.
Streamside Day Follies will be exhibited at Dia:Chelsea from
November 1, 2003, through January 11, 2004. An opening reception
for the exhibition will be held on Friday, October 31, from 6 to
8 pm. Dia:Chelsea, 548 West 22nd Street, New York City, is open
Wednesday through Sunday, 12 noon to 6 pm. Streamside Day
Follies was commissioned by Dia Art Foundation.
