In this exhibition, Lee Wen casts a critical eye on his own 'Journey of a yellow man' series. Having presented the series over the last decade in different events and situations, Lee Wen runs the risk of being type - cast even as his work intends to be critical of stereotypical perceptions.
by Lee Wen
Since 1992, Lee Wen has been presenting the series 'Journey of a yellow man' and he has come to be identified as the 'yellow man' persona he created. The Substation is proud to present Lee Wen's new works in installation, photography and video. In this exhibition, Lee Wen casts a critical eye on his own 'Journey of a yellow man' series. Having presented the series over the last decade in different events and situations, Lee Wen runs the risk of being type - cast even as his work intends to be critical of stereotypical perceptions. Lee Wen, however, remains committed to the 'yellow man' project as long as prejudices and narrow - minded perceptions exist. Strange Fruits attempts to bring the 'yellow man' series to another level, in spite of the restrictions that Lee Wen has encountered while insistently working as a performance artist in Singapore.
