An Art and Film discussion group that explores the increasingly shared language around art and film
An Art and Film discussion group that explores the increasingly shared language around art and film. Taking the film Piercing Brightness as the starting point, Gill Nicol chairs a post screening lively discussion exploring art and film with Piercing Brightness writer Kirk Lake. Using the starting point that Lancashire has the highest UFO sighting rate in the UK, internationally acclaimed artist Shezad Dawood weaves together elements of documentary and the fictional story of Jiang and Shin who land in a spacecraft outside of Preston. Sent to retrieve agents from an ancient mission who were sent to this planet to study us, many have forgotten their original purpose and are slowly becoming influenced by and in turn influencing their adopted home. Science fiction has often been used as a backdrop to contest fixed cultural ideas and here Dawood uses it to discuss race, migration and identity.
