Villa Romana: Art, Music & Performance
Curated by Angelika Stepken. Over the past several years, the Villa Romana artists' house in Florence has developed into a meeting place for artists coming from a wide range of places. The Villa Romana fellows come from the north, while international guest artists come from the southern Mediterranean countries. The events that take place in the villa and garden link the various different artistic disciplines and interact with the Italian art scene. In a two-week-long series of events and exhibitions, the Villa Romana brings the south to Berlin with films, lectures, music, and performances by artists who have a production or residency in the Villa Romana in common. Among the participants are the performance group Kinkaleri from Prato, guest artists from Algiers, Casablanca, Alexandria, and Tirana, the Work Center of Jerzy Grotowsky and Thomas Richards from Pontedera, films by Gianfranco Baruchello, a nocturnal concert by Luciano Maggiore, "Der falsche Auerhahn" by "Wichtel und die Wuchteln" (Oswald and Ingrid Wiener, Rosa Barba, Jan St. Werner, Klaus Sander), and naturally the Villa Romana fellows of 2013: Shannon Bool, Mariechen Danz, Heide Hinrichs, and Daniel Maier-Reimer.
