comunicato stampa

On Thursday 10th October 2013 at 7.pm. Galleria S.A.L.E.S. is proud to inaugurate the second Italian solo exhibition by Hansjoerg Dobliar, Anaesthesia.

Three years after the group show Concetto Spaziale, tha artist returns at Galleria S.A.L.E.S. with a new project in a moment of great fervor for his activity, that sees him exhibiting at Kunstverein Heppenheim with the solo show Malta & Kreta and more recently with a solo presentation at ABC Berlin.

In this Roman show Hansjorg Dobliar will exhibit a series of new works, especially realized for Galleria S.A.L.E.S.. Eight new paintings and around ten small-size works on paper, that will be exhibited in a special setting arranged by the artist, where wallpaintings in black varnish are inserted in the itinerary of the exhibition, in a sort of rythmic composition and thus anticipating the trajectories of meaning that progressively emerge.

The paintings presented here stand out for the unihinibited use of colors, applied on multiple layers in geometric formations that lose their original rigour, blurred by the violent eruption of colours or, on the contrary, in the progressive thickening of the hues. The abstract compositions look like vortexes, or ribbons, or curlicues made by a hand, left free to move, a bit voluptuous and a bit naive. In the multiple layers of color, the artist combines oil, acrylic and tempera, creating images characterized by a high dynamism that mixed with a cold sensuality, brings out the pictorial gesture of the artist.

Paintings, that constitute the most peculiar part of Hansjoerg Dobliar production, are exhibited with ten pieces or the newly begun series of works Kirchner Neu. These artworks are realized through interventions that the artist makes on reproduction of vintage photographs portraying the models or the places of inspiration (for example the atelier) of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. The nature of these interventions is undefined, partly graphic, partly pictorial and partly material, while the use of black and white counterbalances the intense colors of paintings.

As in previous exhibitions, figurative works give the viewer the key to understand abstract works (the paintings). In Hansjoerg Dobliar artistic practice it has always been present the reference to German artistic tradition and in particular, to the Expressionists movements of the early Nineteen Century and the Die Brücke. In this project for Galleria S.A.L.E.S. the combination of the works of Kirchner Neu with the paintings, makes this reference even more explicit and and precise. The combination of these two types of works recall from a first impact the corpus of works of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, his canvases with their violent colours and his drawings with black thick traits, like those of Afric art.

The inclusion of the Kirchner Neu artwork also alludes to another aspect of German Expressionism, as a movement that retrieved some elements of the previous Romantic German tradition. Also the title of the exhibition, Anaesthesia, recalls on one hand an enchanted sleep, induced to put an end to an incessant and crazily passionate research, or on the other end, an escape from reality and disillusion, with the passage to an aesthetizing dimension of life.
