Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow

Artists on war and conflicts. From the museums' art collections

sintesi del comunicato stampa

An exhibition of work from Glasgow Museums' art collections. It illustrates how artists from places as far ranging as Berlin, Brazil, Glasgow, London, Los Angeles, the Middle East and South Korea respond to the effects and prevalence of war and conflict around the world. It includes work in film, installation, painting, printmaking and photography and includes historic 19th and 20th century objects by artists such as Francisco de Goya and Christopher Nevinson as well as major 21st century GoMA acquisitions by artists such as Omer Fast, Jenny Holzer and Walid Raad. Several new acquisitions will be presented here for the first time. Living with war includes direct anti-war statements as well as satirical commentary and documentary evidence challenging and highlighting miscarriages of justice and human rights abuse. The exhibition offers varied and sometimes impartial commentary on a hugely topical issue: the human, cultural and economic costs of war and conflict.
