As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, the Frac Haute-Normandie has joined forces with the Maison des Arts Solange-Baudoux and the Musée d'Art, Histoire et Archéologie in Évreux to showcase the most recent acquisitions to its collections, covering the period 2011 and 2012, in a highly "original" staging. The Transfers exhibition is a pendant to the Frac's "anniversary" project based on its Inventory cycle, which is being held simultaneously at the Sotteville-Lès-Rouen site. While the Inventory, Vol. 3 show features the earliest acquisitions, hung in chronological order, Transfers provides an opportunity to display recent purchases by subject and theme, thirty years on from the Frac's initial selection.
The title of the exhibition, borrowed from the work of Bertrand Lamarche, alludes here to the movement of works, from their conception to their later acquisition by the Frac. This relocation process is vitally important as one of Frac Haute-Normandie's primary functions is to disseminate the works in its collections. This twofold exhibition highlights the Frac's interest in a variety of media (photography, works on paper, works published in volumes, artists' books) and themes (territory and the environment, the human figure and body, narratives and books), and identifies new artistic practices (image appropriation, object diversion, and the concept of amateurism) that underlie the choice of acquisitions, in keeping with pre-established guidelines for the collection.
The rich variety of recently acquired works is featured in a booklet, 30 ans du Frac Haute-Normandie, published especially for the exhibition.
