The work of these six artists explores the notions of space, shape and time. Basterra's installation guides visitors to the second floor's exhibition space, where the exhibition takes life.
Experiments in Geometry features the work of two ArtCenter resident artists, Xabier Basterra and Laz Ojalde and four alumni Rosemarie Chiarlone, Peter Hammar, Regina Jestrow and Alex Trimino. The work of these six artists explores the notions of space, shape and time.
Viewers are invited to enter the 924 building by walking through Xabier Basterra’s visually engaging installation, experiencing it at close range and, in doing so, blurring the boundaries between object and subject. Basterra’s installation guides visitors to the second floor’s exhibition space, Project 924.
There, Hammar and Trimino comment on life in a subtle and somewhat comical way. The impossible is made possible in a suspended act of time and motion. Chiarlone also makes the impossible, possible by presenting dancing poems in her video works.
In the main exhibition space, Jestrow and Ojalde present individual works that experiment with geometry, in both space and form. Jestrow translates the movement of color and design, combining ideas from the traditional art of quilting and contemporary art into her own geometric, organic, three-dimensional work. Ojalde combines function and innovation in the everyday object bringing together elements of industrial design and contemporary art.
ArtCenter/South Florida’s Project 924 is dedicated to experimentation and innovation in exhibitions, performances and site-specific installations.
