We Were All Here, Once. A selection of rarely seen images of Manchester's night scene from the late 1970s and early 1980s. These mostly candid shots where taken in now legendary clubs and reveal what Chadwick summarises simply as "young people looking for love."

Manchester based David Chadwick will be presenting a selection of rarely seen images of Manchester’s night scene from the late 1970s and early 1980s. These mostly candid shots where taken in now legendary clubs and reveal what Chadwick summarises simply as “young people looking for love.”
These raw and immediate images offer an insight into the Punk, New Romantic and Rag-Doll scenes. One of the images, Girl in a Discotheque, was included in Cornerhouse’s opening exhibition Human Interest back in 1985, and featured in the first Cornerhouse brochure.
We Were All Here, Once will be the first time Chadwick’s unique photographs have been displayed together in public. All of the photographs will be for sale, as well as a limited edition of 100 signed and numbered prints.
David Chadwick studied photography at Manchester School of Art 1972-75, and simultaneously worked as an assistant to fashion photographer Roger Alexander. He then worked as an artistic photographer for around eight years, while also lecturing at Blackburn College. In the 1980s he became a staff photographer on the magazine Manchester Flash, and made a living from photography for almost 20 years while also playing and coaching tennis.
All work will be for sale.
David Chadwick’s photographs are on display in our ground floor bar and first floor cafe. A second exhibition, Double Indemnity, is on display in Galleries 1, 2 & 3 until june 2014
Inspired by Billy Wilder’s classic film noir of the same name, Double Indemnity explores questions of desire, possession and complicity through new and recent work by a selection of high profile artists, including Sophie Calle, Jenny Holzer, Ming Wong, Anicka Yi and Frances Stark.
Billy Wilder’s film tells the story of insurance salesman Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray); a man ruined by his desire for money, a married woman (Phyllis Dietrichson, played by Barbara Stanwyck), and the approval of his co-worker Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson). Curated with Neff in mind as its ideal fictional audience, the exhibition includes work that exposes and subverts the distance between those who desire and are desired.
