31GRAND is proud to present Tim Wilson's solo exhibition SEE ME, FEEL ME.
Tim's lush hyperrealist paintings, which range in size from 12 inches to 13
feet in length, depict an intoxicating psychosexual tableau. Phallic images
of cameras and microphones mingle with psychedelic renderings of fake
flowers soaked in a Caravaggio light. The glistening surfaces of oily
plastic figurines, partaking in lustful orgies, mimic the impenetrable
surface of Wilson's meticulously crafted canvases, creating a seductively
baroque world of desire. It is from throwaway culture that this world is
created, where butterflies drink freely from nectar that is amyl nitrate.
Wilson is interested in theatrics and artifice but he imbues such images as
forgotten gumball machine toys with such loving care and attention to detail
that it transcends their origins as the they recede into the layers of
varnish beyond our grasp.
A special thanks to Stephen Heighton for the loan of his commissioned
painting See Me, Feel Me and to Adam Singer and Nesti Mendoza for their loan
of Rush.
