Always a thief and never caught. His work is "a delicate negotiation between figuration and abstraction, between the calculability of an idea and the metamorphosis of the execution".
Some want to understand too much and too quickly; they have explanations for everything. Others refuse to understand; they offer only cheap mystifications. The only way forward lies in investigating the space between these two options.

The work of Egon Van Herreweghe (°1985) is a delicate negotiation between figuration and abstraction, between the calculability of an idea and the metamorphosis of the execution. The results flow from photographs, clippings and objects he collects and examines through their repeated reproduction. Each presentation articulates other presences and accentuates a new temporality. Thereby the context and architecture of the exhibition space form a grateful invitation.

Appartement 601 is a film that looks like a seance…
The main character is a building.
This seance is an attempt to get in contact with this building.
To find out if it is alive or dead.
How can we enter a disappeared living room,
remember a forgotten memory,
look at the inside of a picture,
drive over a road that is not on the map…
And in case we manage,
the question is: will we be able to get back ?
At least, let’s call home to say that we might be late!
