Vampyr. Through the combination of their respective works - videos, installations and photographs - the artists provide visitors with a visual and sound dialogue within the gallery's two exhibition spaces.
Yvon Lambert is pleased to announce VAMPYR an exhibition by American artist Anna
Gaskell and Scottish artist Douglas Gordon.
Through the combination of their respective works—videos, installations and photo-
graphs—Anna Gaskell and Douglas Gordon provide visitors with a visual and sound
dialogue within the gallery’s two exhibition spaces.
In Anna Gaskell’s fourth exhibition with Yvon Lambert, she works closely with the Bols-
hoi principal dancer Svetlana Lunkina, using their interplay to examine and subvert the
role of the performer vs the role of the spectator. Lunkina watches Gaskell observing
her, letting the viewer know that the ballerina is fueled by the spectator’s gaze, which
can only be activated by the performer herself. Both women work together, forcing and
fusing Lunkina’s performances into Gaskell’s two-dimensional forms.
Douglas Gordon’s seventh exhibition with Yvon Lambert is a kind of retrospective with
a wide selection of new and old works, selected to offer visitors the sensory experience
of the profound duality of human nature: love and hate, seduction and violence, life and
death ... Indeed, this approach recalls the curiosity cabinets of old, where strange and
wonderful objects were displayed side by side. It also privileges memory and once again
allows us to test the image’s power of attraction and its capacity to transform reality.
Anna Gaskell was born in Des Moines, IA in 1969. She lives and works in New York.
Gaskell was a NYFA, Artslink, Bohen Foundation, and Recollets Residecy Recipient in 2010. She received Best Documen-
tary for Short Film at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2009, and Best Short Film at the Kunst Film Biennale in Cologne
Germany in 2005. Gaskell was awarded The Citibank Private Bank Photography Prize in 2002.

Douglas Gordon was born in Glasgow in 1966. He lives and works in Berlin.
Gordon was the 1996 recipient of the Turner Prize and the Kunstpreis Niedersachsen, Kunstverein Hannover, Hannover. In
1997 he was awarded the Premio 2000 at the 47. Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte, La Biennale di Venezia, Venice and
received the DAAD Stipend in Berlin. In 1998 he was presented with the Hugo Boss Prize at the Guggenheim Museum in SoHo,
New York as well as with the Central Kunstpreis, Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne and the Lord Provostʼ s Award, Glasgow City
Council, Glasgow. Most recently in May 2008 he won the Roswitha Haftmann Prize awarded by the Kunsthaus Zürich and he
was the recipient of the Käthe-Kollwitz Prize 2012 awarded by the Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
In 2008 Gordon was Juror at the 65th International Venice Film Festival, La Biennale di Venezia, Venice and in 2012 he was
the Jury president of CinemaXXI at the 07th Rome Film Festival, Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma, Rome. His film
works have been invited to the Festival de Cannes, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Venice Film Festival, Edinburgh
International Film Festival among many others.
Protean artist, Douglas Gordon use as well video as photography, installation or text pieces. His work is often based on a
disruption of perception; by making his audience aware of their own fugitive subjectivity, he questions how we give meaning to
our experience of things.
