La Galleria Riccardo Crespi presenta Barbecue una mostra personale
dell’artista italiana Eugenia Vanni.
Il titolo della mostra rimanda idealmente al concetto di ritrovo, un
pretesto per prendere parte a un momento di condivisione in cui i contorni
delle cose si ridefiniscono.
Il lavoro di Eugenia Vanni, nasce da un desiderio di presa diretta e di
analisi profonda delle tecniche artistiche in relazione all’attualità. Un
percorso che attraversa i temi classici della storia dell’arte come la
natura morta e il ritratto.
Alcune regole da manuale sono estremizzate e manifestate nella loro forma
più nuda: i passaggi, che nelle varie tecniche artistiche sono utili
all’immagine finale, diventano i protagonisti e i soggetti stessi
dell’opera acquistando forza poetica.
Tra le opere in mostra avviene un continuo scambio per cui è la vita
quotidiana che entra a far parte di alcune tecniche di belle arti e
viceversa con una rivelazione della loro natura più pratica, quella meno
visibile e abitualmente riservata all’artista.

La pittura si presenta come uno studio sui passaggi intermedi di alcune
tecniche scultoree immortalando momenti normalmente destinati a
scomparire: come un modellato per cera persa, un piano in argilla pronto
per un bassorilievo, una colata di gesso per fare un calco.
I soggetti dei quadri, benché inanimati, vengono realizzati come dei
ritratti, quasi a sottolineare il continuo mutamento delle materie
destinate a diventare opera.

Un affresco bianco ci rivela solo il suo volume diventando
tridimensionale. Dando forma quindi a un piedistallo/parallelepipedo in
cui ogni faccia è una “giornata”.
O la tempera all’uovo che diventa spray e, vaporizzandosi, perde la sua
natura “sacra” per appartenere invece al mondo della strada, del
vandalismo, del graffito.

Nell’incisione si rimette in discussione la fase dell’inchiostratura:
lastre di zinco con nudi da calendario incisi a puntasecca passano nelle
mani sporche di grasso di un meccanico per essere poi stampati su carta.
L’ingresso del lavoro artistico in officina diventa un passaggio
necessario per la tecnica incisoria tramite un’azione performativa e
partecipativa.

Riccardo Crespi gallery presents Barbecue, a solo show by the Italian
artist Eugenia Vanni.

The title of the exhibition is an allusion to the concept of the
gathering, a pretext to take part in a moment of sharing in which the
outlines of things are redefined.
The work of Eugenia Vanni stems from a desire for direct engagement with
artistic media and profound analysis of their relation to the present day.
A journey on which she explores classic themes of art history like the
still life and the portrait.
Some of the rules found in manuals are taken to an extreme and shown in
their most naked form: the passages that are part of the process leading
up to the final image in the various artistic techniques become the
protagonists and indeed the subjects of the work, acquiring poetic force.
A continual exchange takes place between the works on show so that it is
everyday life which becomes part of some of the techniques used in the
fine arts and vice versa, with a revelation of their more practical
nature, the less visible side that is usually reserved for the artist.

Painting is presented as a study on the intermediate passages of some
sculptural techniques, capturing forever moments normally fated to vanish:
such as modelling for the lost-wax process, a slab of clay ready for a
bas-relief, the pouring of plaster to make a cast.
The subjects of the pictures, although inanimate, are painted as if they
were portraits, in what seems to be an effort to underline the continual
transformation of the materials destined to become the work.

A blank fresco reveals only its volume to us, becoming three-dimensional.
Giving form therefore to a pedestal/parallelepiped in which each face is a
giornata, a single day’s painting.
Or the egg tempera that turns into spray paint and, vaporizing, loses its
‘sacred’ nature to enter the world of the street, of vandalism, of
graffiti.

In engraving it is the phase of inking that is brought into question: zinc
plates with calendar-style nudes dry-point etched on them pass through the
grease-stained hands of a mechanic to be printed on paper. The entry of
the work of art into the workshop becomes a necessary passage for the
medium of engraving through an action of performance and participation.
