Eric McDade

Oulous Repair Shop, Los Angeles

Opening February 21st 6 -10 PM

Los Angeles (Chinatown), CA February 2nd 2004. Oulous Repair Shop is devastated to have its top tier management singular personality Eric McDade perform a solo show within the exhibition space of its dynamic workshop. McDade's exhibition has escaped Philadelphia, Baltimore, Berlin, and New York to find its way to the Empire of Los Angeles within the borders of Chinatown and upon the walls of the Repair Shops Chung King Rd show room space.

Using a combination of original and appropriated images from textbooks, instruction manuals and children’s books, Eric McDade creates tragicomic, black and white images that are petty, whiney and one-sided. Every once in a while, though, he manages to eke out a piece of work that doesn’t beg the audience for a pity handjob, and this is when his work soars to mediocrity.

Eric McDade’s exhibition, "More Exercises in Self-Pity" at Oulous Repair Shop will mark his solo debut in Los Angeles. Coming from the Philadelphia Art Alliance in McDade’s hometown, the exhibit is not so much traveling, as it is being driven out of town with pitchforks and torches.

Eric McDade has exhibited in museums and galleries in both the U.S. and Europe, lowering the bar time and time again. Mr. McDade is accepting attention at the opening of his show on February 21st between 6 and 10 PM. The show will run from 2/2/2004 to 3/28/2004. The gallery will be open 6 to 10 PM Thursday through Sunday.
