University Gallery Opens ''Painting from Venice'' in conjunction with Azalea Festival
Old Dominion University Gallery will present, ''Painting from Venice,'' an exhibition featuring work by four contemporary Italian painters and 12 students currently studying at the Academy delle Arti Fini a Venezia, March 27 through April 25. The gallery will host a reception from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 17. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public and are being held in conjunction with the Azalea Festival’s celebration of Italy.
The exhibition co-curated by Assunta Cuozzo, Professor at the Università degli Studi - Ca'Foscari of Venice, Saverio Simi de Burgis, art history lecturer at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice and ODU Gallery Director Katherine Huntoon, is a collection of works by Federico Veniez, Daniele Bianchi, Silvana Scarpa, Martino Scavezzon and selected students from the Academy.
Saverio Simi de Burgis, will give a slide lecture from 12:30-1:15 p.m. Thursday April 15, in Room 107 of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center on the ODU campus. De Burgis will discuss the work of the students at the Academy and the paintings in the exhibition. Both de Burgis, and Vito Piraino, the Italian Consul, will be present at the reception and give a brief welcome.

The University Gallery, located at 350 W. 21st, Norfolk, is open noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.
