Princípio Tautológico opens the HANGAR exhibition project, in 22nd May 2015.
Curated by Bruno Leitão, this first exhibition questions the current art production and art market. Princípio Tautológico the first exhibition will launch a cycle of exhibitions and activities that will take place over the period of three years and that questions on the place of art and culture in its social context. Between self referentiality in the visual arts and institutional critique, questioning comes to systems of legitimation within the art system itself, between the market and museum system.
This research proposal is built around discussions which questions market practices and capitalization of institutions. The Princípio Tautológico exposes artistic discourses disruptive in the field of institutional critique which, by definition, allow questioning of the status quo of the current artistic production.
The works of the artists presented here use sometimes irony, questioning what to do, exhibit, curate and discuss in art. The artists participating in this exhibition are: Igor Jesus, Sara and André, Cristina Garrido, Javier Nuñez Gasco, João Paulo Serafim, João Ferro Martins, Daniel Barroca, Paolo Chiasera and Los Torreznos.
HANGAR is an Artistic Research Center, located in the area of Graça, in Lisbon. HANGAR includes several platforms for action, including: a center of artistic residences, studios for artists, an art education center, an exhibition and public program.
From the concept of unification of certain geographies, cultures and identities, HANGAR seeks to organize and produce the development of cross-disciplinary artistic projects in the Visual Arts, integrating public presentations and taking Lisbon as the focus of intervention.
HANGAR is an independent space run by artists and curators. It is a place for experimentation, research and reflection of artistic practices. The space is a point of convergence of various areas of contemporary artistic processes. HANGAR aims to act as a catalyst of experience in the connection between artists, researchers and other artistic initiatives. It aims to encourage discussion of the emerging contemporary art, stimulating the development of artistic and theoretical practices motivated by experimental and shared experiences.
