'Wind Drawing'
Step into one of Intae Kim's luscious dune photographs, and you enter a
world of timeless shifting sands, searing heat, buffeting winds, and the
relentless power of time sculpting our world. Kim has spent his life
traveling to the wild places of America and his native Korea, where the raw
forces of nature have exercised her power and her delicate attention to form
some of our most stunningly impressive landscapes. He has brought back
meticulously crafted images that show his abiding concern and love for the
natural world, and is ever trying to share the peace and serenity he finds
in nature.
Working in the honored tradition (and footsteps) of Edward Weston and Ansel
Adams, Kim brings his own distinct poetic vision to this body of work, which
he calls 'Wind Drawing.' He told me he is trying to reconcile the split
duality of his soul-- to become one with nature. This takes patience, often
days and days of watching the dunes, fighting blinding dust storms and
freezing daybreak in this inhospitable land. And he walks. He says, 'I
believe that the more you walk, the better pictures you can make. I take on
a pioneer mentality when I go out searching for a picture. Often pictures
will come to me as I pack my things and wander in the wilderness.'
Please visit White Room Gallery to view this exciting new body of work. Mr.
Kim has published many of these pictures in his first monograph, titled,
'Wind Drawing,' where he has written:
'There is utopia, in the desert.
I can be free from all the nervousness of mundane life
I engulf myself in the beauty of nature
I regain the happiness that I have lost.
I feel cleansed and life starts anew.'
