Passersby
Passersby: Jerzy Grotowski explores the experimental theatre work of Polish director Jerzy Grotowski (1933-99), who in his travels through Mexico influenced the dramatic arts while exploring new methodologies and approaches to theatre, integrating anthropology, ritual and 'spatial movements'. Grotowski came to Mexico in 1981 and 1985, following in the footsteps of Antonin Artaud. During his travels he was influenced by different cultural practices such as Haitian Voodoo, yoga and Huichol rituals, and assembled a group of followers who keep his technique alive today. The exhibition is the first in Museo Jumex's Passersby (Pasajeros) series that presents biographical micro-exhibitions underlining the importance of foreigners passing through Mexico who have been influential in the development of the national artistic discourse.
