With THE END the association berlinerpool and the Polish foundation ART TRANSPARENT are pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of the artist Piotr Blajerski in Berlin.
PIOTR BLAJERSKI (born 1980) studied media art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. He belongs to the young generation of media artists in Poland. His works have already been presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Wroclaw (MWW) as well as at various film and art festivals in Poland, Berlin and Paris. This year, he has been nominated for the Warto Prize, awarded by the Polish daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.
In video works, media art installations and photographs, Blajerski deals with specific social phenomena related to the behavior of the individual in society, e.g. by exploring the cultural and religious influences on the human being and the resulting impacts on individual decisions, or by looking at forms of rejection of given social norms and structures. His artistic observations often take the form of an epistemological approach in the tradition of Appropriation Art, based on the use of Found Footage, linking single sequences from important cinematographic productions into new narrations in order to investigate specific artistic questions.
In his Berlin exhibition THE END, Blajerski explores the phenomenon of the temporal and rational limitations of the human consciousness. Utilizing simple pictures and sounds, he constructs new media perspectives of this paradox of the human existence that generates fantasies, images or even obsessions about a condition that cannot be verified by process of experience and cognition and, therefore, can never be experienced. The show will serve as a brief taster for the varied art scene in Wroclaw, the Polish city that will carry the title of Capital of Culture in 2016.
