Second exhibition of the *Kurator annual program, dedicated to disparities between real and virtual identities
Constant Dullaart, Lindsay Lawson, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Shana Moulton, Aude Pariset, Riccardo Previdi, Josephine Pryde, Amalia Ulman; curated by Christina Lehnert. The second exhibition of the *Kurator annual program is dedicated to disparities between real and virtual identities. Find Your Beach is borrowed from the title of an essay by Zadie Smith, in which she discusses the menacing and proprietary wording of an advertising poster in New York. While calling for the reader to "Find Your Beach", the poster claims that everyone can find their personal beach (i.e. happiness), even if it does not exist in real life. Using this idea as a starting point, the exhibition explores the similar promise suggested by virtual identities, which are constructed by real individuals. How do we present ourselves when self-design (Boris Groys) becomes possible? How does this impact us in the real world? Videoworks, Photography and installations will pick up this idea of a real and an optimized self-percetpion, the perception of others virtual technologies.
