comunicato stampa

The Museum of Oceanography in Monte-Carlo is proud to host the travelling exhibition presenting models of playgrounds and educational toys created by artists, architects and designers from all over the world.
The aim of this project, launched by Art for The World in occasion of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, is to provide concrete help to the over 11 million refugee children who suffer from social injustice and live in unacceptable conditions, either abused or exploited, living in the tents of the refugee camps bordering the war zones.

The artists who contributed to this project searched for the child inside them and created playgrounds and toys that are able to strike the universal chords. They created simple works, built with materials readily available, adaptable to the needs of different areas and cultures. Through these works, a message of hope is conveyed, which also raises awareness internationally – a sense of responsibility that should have an effect upon the diverse bodies of society.

At each stage of this itinerant exhibition, Playgrounds and Toys incorporates a wider list of participants, and is distinct in character each time. While a local jury composed of children and adults select one or more exhibited works, Art for The World organizes the fundraising to produce the selected model in full scale size. The playground is then built in the chosen areas, such as Armenia, India and Greece etc.

ART for The World
Art for The World is a not for profit organization for the promotion of humanitarian objectives through the medium of contemporary art, based in Geneva, Switzerland. By working with international artists, the organization seeks to establish meaningful dialogues between peoples of various cultures, reflecting different views of the world.
The organization focuses on themes and projects that encourage: peace, tolerance and solidarity, education and culture as means for the defense and promotion of human rights. Art for the World seeks to achieve these aims through the organization of cultural events such as: exhibitions of contemporary art, concerts, lectures, publications, symposia and workshops. It also develops specific projects such as Playgrounds & Toys designed by artists and architects for disadvantaged children around the world.

Art for The World was founded in 1995 by Adelina von Fürstenberg in Geneva, following the Dialogues of Peace exhibition, held for the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations.
Since its foundation, more than 20 major exhibitions of contemporary art have taken place in countries around the world such as: Armenia, Brazil, India, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Switzerland and USA, on such topics as: emigration and exclusion, health, racial and social discrimination, solidarity, children, women and peace. Its partners have included museums, schools and universities as well as international organizations, such as UNO, WHO (World Health Organization), UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), etc.

Art for The World is recognized as a organization of public utility and as a NGO associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI ).
Art for The World depends largely on contributions from both private and corporate sponsors sharing its ideals. It has been set up as a light structure with a limited permanent staff and a network of collaborators all over the world.
Participating in Art for The World and supporting its projects is a way of expressing one's beliefs that art can contribute to awareness within our society.
