The event will include a Private View, followed by four days (Thursday through Sunday) during which the fair will be open to the public.
photo-london will be a forum for galleries and dealers of established and emerging contemporary artists working in photographically based media including film and video, important post-war photography, classic modernism and masterworks of the 19th century.
photo-london will be held in the Royal Academy of Arts' Burlington Gardens, a neo-classical 19th century building which formerly housed the British Museum's Museum of Mankind. The building stands at the top of Cork Street, a short walk from Sotheby's Bond Street and Christie's King Street, as well as the art dealers and galleries of Mayfair and St. James's. Adjacent to the Underground stations of Piccadilly and Green Park, Burlington Gardens is at the heart of London's art world.
Stand facilities will be designed and purpose-built to the highest standards, offering an elegant, functional exhibition and selling space for participating dealers.

London's first major international photography fair to take place in the Royal Academy s new space at Burlington Gardens 20-23 May 04
photo-london is the first annual art fair in Britain solely dedicated to photography. Galleries and dealers from all over the world will be participating in this unique event, commencing with a gala private view on 19th May and open to the public from 20th-23rd May 2004.
Work on display will include photography from established and emerging contemporary artists, important post-war photography, classic modernism and masterworks of the 19th century as well as film and video. It will be a showcase for the world s best photographically based art. Fifty leading international galleries will be taking stands, showing photography, film and video art by artists ranging from Julia Margaret Cameron, Man Ray and Bill Brandt to David Bailey, Cindy Sherman and Andreas Gursky. photo-london is excellently placed to respond to the increasing demand for photography as well as London s expanding art market. Photography fairs have grown in popularity and importance over recent years with Paris Photo and AIPAD in New York drawing exhibitors and buyers from around the globe. photo-london also coincides with major photography auctions taking place in the capital, ensuring the fair will attract an audience of established collectors and new buyers alike. Prices for work on display will range from 500 to over half a million pounds.
photo-london will be the centrepiece of the new annual London Photo Week, promoting photographic exhibitions and special events in public and private art galleries, as well as retail shops, restaurants and bars across the city. Already scheduled to be on show during London Photo Week are a Bill Brandt retrospective at the V&A, the World Press Photos at the Royal Festival Hall, Cecil Beaton Portraits at the National Portrait Gallery and Tina Modotti and Edward Weston: The Mexico Years at the Barbican. London Photo Week will raise awareness worldwide of photographic media in the arts. photo-london has been organised by pluk magazine, the UK s leading art and photography magazine. photo-london Director Daniel Newburg is supported by an advisory board made up of London s most prominent photography and contemporary art market authorities.
The advisory board includes Danny Moynihan (chairman), Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, Simon Crocker, Philippe Garner, Robert Hershkowitz, Michael Hoppen, Liz Jobey, Julia Royse, Sam Taylor-Wood, Thomas Walther, Alannah Weston and Michael Wilson.
