The solo exhibition will not only display Newson's well-known objects but also reveal a glimpse of his background, fascinations, and sources of inspiration by means of unique design sketches, prototypes and rare items. This will be the first time that such a comprehensive overview of Newson's extensive oeuvre is displayed in Europe. The Groninger Museum has the honour of holding the premiere.
The management and staff of the Groninger Museum are pleased to invite you and your partner to a press meeting in the Groninger Museum at 14.30 on Saturday 22 May on the occasion of the exhibition Marc Newson.
The Australian designer Marc Newson (1963) is regarded as one of the most talented and influential present-day designers. Marc Newson left the Sydney College of Arts in 1984, having specialized in jewellery and sculpture. From this specialist background, he has developed into an unusually adaptable industrial designer. His designs are futuristic, sexy and humorous, and vary from household objects, furniture, and complete interiors to almost Utopian projects such as the Kelvin 40 aeroplane and the O21C concept car for Ford. Newson has worked with producers such as Alessi, Cappellini, Magis and Flos.
Kelvin 40 was commissioned, produced, and presented by the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris.
The Groninger Museum has the honour of holding the première.
This exhibition is made possible thanks to generous support from the main sponsor, Fortis Bank.
This exhibition has been compiled in conjunction with the Design Museum, London.
