Emotion Eins

Emotion Eins is a production of the Ursula Blickle Foundation in cooperation with the Frankfurter Kunstverein.

Emotion Eins doesn't claim to present a new emotional quality of contemporary art, but seeks instead to place the rhetoric of our feelings squarely in the foreground.

Art doesn't just move, bewilder or fascinate the viewer with the subject matter it is conveying but also through the way and manner of communication. Seduction techniques taken from cinema and mass media are often jump-started with universal themes that everyone can relate to: the yearning for change and rebellion, the fascination of beauty, as well as the loss of youth, and the futile search for self-realization and individual happiness. In this current art production it is the dealing with and coming to terms with the promise of lifestyle and the desire for new patterns of "belonging" that is the primary issue being not only addressed here but also challenged.

By virtue of the very presentation of these subjects, albeit sometimes with critical distance, the inherent emotional charges are brought to the fore and the would-be contradiction between form and content of the artwork seem to dissolve. Thus Mathias Faldbakken's video "Getaway" shows an illegal drag race from the perspective of one of the drivers; the observer shares the direct experience of speed and danger. In her video documentary "Solveig" Gitte Villesen introduces us to a woman who had a sex change from man to woman at age 62 and who tells us of her experiences, fears, life dreams. Sebastian Diaz Morales, on the other hand, uses everyday scenes to compose cinematographic shots of evocative beauty that draw the viewer into the irresistible power of the images.

This exhibition will show and integrate artistic productions from the visual arts, cinema, fashion, and literature to form a new type of decorative exhibition display.

Emotion Eins will be showing works by Fikret Atay, Vanessa Beecroft, Marc Brandenburg, Duncan Campbell, Sebastian Diaz Morales, Rineke Dijkstra, Matias Faldbakken, Ulrike Feser, Liam Gillick, Alexander Gutke, Richard Hawkins, Carsten Holler, Laura Horelli, Nestor Kruger, Hans-Jorg Mayer, Shahryar Nashat, Mark Raidpere, Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay, Egle Rakauskaite, RothStauffenberg, Stiina Saaristo, Seifollah Samadian, Kevin Schmidt, David Shrigley, Javier Tellez, Su-Mei Tse, Gavin Turk, and Gitte Villesen/ Lars Erik Frank, Markus Weisbeck, Andro Wekua and Florian Wust.
