A Site Specific Group Show

Priska C. Juschka Fine Art is pleased to present On Site, a site-specific group show. In this exhibition, seven artists have come together to create a unique installation of drawing, painting and sculpture. Inspired by and conceived for the gallery's space, the works maintain a unique and thought-provoking dialogue with it.

In her installation on the gallery's front window, Tamara Gayer alternates transparent and translucent areas, playing with a frontal presentation to the outside of the space and a colorful shadow cast on the interior floor of the gallery. The imagery, derived from the architecture of Times Square, incorporates abstract patterns into the metropolitan landscape as an indicator of the complexity of urban life.

Rachel Selekman's sculptural installation "Untitled (Pink Elephant)", engages the viewer by reaching out to him with its fleshy, pink wool extensions that extend from the wall to the floor. The extensions flare open at their base like the trunk of an elephant and reveal a variety of sensuous, silky fabric interiors suggesting open mouths or vaginas.

In her wall drawing "To Every Story Belongs Another", Sybille Rath communicates experiences from Mexico City and New York, focusing on their intense vibrancy as opposed to the strong feeling of isolation they invoke. It is this contradiction that Rath believes improves and sustains today's world.

The installation created by Peter C. Petersen also displays negating themes, as it is an evolving organic form, constricted within its own geometrical parameters. The work opens out into the gallery space, luring the viewer into its continual qualities and rhythmic nature.

In his paper installation, Michael Scoggins invites the viewer into the recreations of his childhood notebooks. The discarded crumpled notebook papers depict his memories, thoughts and feelings of fundamental experiences, which the viewers can relate to from their own childhood.

In his wall-drawing, Aaron Johnson continues to investigate the condition of the human organism through the filters of contemporary society. Culture is depicted as a chaotic cycle of consumption, regurgitation, and ejaculation. The drawing is the juncture where the artist explores the contradictory impulses of political dissent and lust for life.

For this site-specific installation, Debra Hampton continues to explore an aesthetic vocabulary derived from abstract shapes and patterns. Positioned in a collision of abstract expressionism and minimalist aestheticism, Hampton moves between non-linear chaotic process and reductionist objectivity that belies the conceptual curiosity inherent in the work.

In the Project Room, Riiko Sakkinen's site-specific installation of drawing, painting and sculpture continues.
