The starting point for the installation was a proposal for cities lacking a good suicide spot and a car friendly vantage point, which consists of the construction of a gigantic tower with a parking lot.
May i propose? Proposals for public space
Johan Zetterquist, an artist of Swedish origin living in Berlin, has since 2003 focused primarily on developing a project of art works for public spaces. After exhibitions in Berlin, Stockholm and Chicago, Johan Zetterquist will exhibit his brand new proposals at Display Gallery in Prague. The starting point for the installation was a proposal for cities lacking a good suicide spot and a car friendly vantage point, which consists of the construction of a gigantic tower with a parking lot.
Even though this proposal was visualised in preceding exhibitions by two distinct spatial models, it is given in the present installation in the form of monumental murals of a technical design in which we see the tower from a bird’s-eye view. Another four projects will be presented by works on paper, made in a broad spectrum of expressive means ranging from drawings, to watercolours to collage. Together with abstract spatial objects, the installation’s various elements create a complex whole that not only addresses urban and social problems of the modern city, but also the means by which their solutions are presented.
