Anton Corbijn nasce a Strijen, Olanda, nel 1955.
La passione per la musica rock lo avvicina, giovanissimo, alla fotografia. Con il suo obiettivo comincia a riprendere i concerti e nel 1979 si trasferisce a Londra dove è in pieno fermento l'atmosfera post-punk. Nel giro di pochi anni ritrae i più importanti e carismatici leader del rock e della new-wave fino a comporre una galleria di ritratti che annovera anche i divi di cinema, letteratura, moda e sport.
La sua prima mostra d'arte personale si tiene alla Kunsthal di Rotterdam nel 1994.
Nel 1997 il Castello di Rivoli accoglie una sua esposizione e nello stesso anno esibisce le sue fotografie alla Fahey Klein Gallery di Los Angeles, alla Galerie Mosel & Tschechow di Monaco, al Kunstverein di Arnsberg in Germania. Corbijn è ormai un artista fotografo di livello internazionale. Nessun personaggio di successo sfugge alla sua macchina fotografica: David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, Martin Scorsese, Michael Schumacher, Bono Vox e U2, William Borroughs, Nick Cave, Frank Zappa, Bryan Ferry e tanti altri.
Corbijn entra nel personaggio che ritrae. In una sola immagine, spesso monocroma, si srotola l'anima del soggetto, fondendo talento, personalità, spirito. Tra i ritrattisti più amati dallo star system internazionale collabora con riviste di moda - Vogue, Rolling Stone, Max, Glamour, Elle - esegue videoclip e cover di album di culto come Actung Baby (U2, 1991) e Ruttle and Hum (U2, 1988).
Corteggiato da musicisti e editori Corbijn esegue un tipo di fotografia introspettiva tanto che Bono Vox disse di lui: ''Corbijn sa fotografare la musica più che il musicista''.
I suoi soggetti sono distaccati e solenni, talvolta sorridenti e la fotografia non si avvale di alcun supporto tecnologico.
Corbijn coglie lo stato esistenziale, il carisma, imbrigliando la personalità del soggetto con un approccio che va al di là del classico ritratto fotografico. L'assoluta capacità di questo grande artista consiste nel cogliere il lato privato, oscuro, profondo delle celebrità che ritrae svelandone la condizione umana, le emozioni primarie.
Nel 2001 espone la mostra Strippinggirls alla Galleria LipanjePuntin artecontemporanea di Trieste dove ritorna nel 2003. Dello stesso anno anche la personale alla Galleria d'Arte moderna di Bologna e alla Kestner Gesellschaft di Hannover. Nel 2004, in Italia, ha tenuto un'importante esposizione a Palazzo Fortuny, Venezia.
Dice Corbijn della sua arte: "Mi considero un fotografo decisamente tradizionale. Credo che la forza delle mie foto stia principalmente nello stato d'animo e nelle sensazioni che riesco a catturare nelle persone che incontro".

La prestigiosa cornice ''aperta al mondo'' offerta da SPAZIO SYMPHONIA è un'occasione privilegiata per proporre mostre d'arte contemporanea a sguardi, attenti o distratti, ma comunque continui.

Symphonia Arte Contemporanea re-opened its "window" on contemporary art on September 29th 2004, with a personal exhibition of work by Anton Corbijn, at the Spazio Symphonia in Corso Matteotti, 5 Milan until November 14th 2004.

Anton Corbijn was born at Strijen, in Holland, in 1955.
He was drawn to photography at a young age through his love of rock music. He began taking photographs at concerts, and in 1979 moved to London where the post-punk era was at its peak. In a few short years he had photographed the most important and charismatic leaders of rock and new wave, and had a collection of portraits extending to film stars, writers, fashion icons and people from the world of sport.
He held his first personal art exhibition at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam in 1994.
In 1997 his photographs were on show at the Castello di Rivoli. In the same year he exhibited at the Fahey Klein Gallery in Los Angeles, Galerie Mosel & Tschechow in Munich, and the Kunstverein in Arnsberg (also in Germany). Corbijn was now established as an international photographic artist. None of the top stars escaped his camera lens: he photographed David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, Martin Scorsese, Michael Schumacher, Bono Vox and U2, William Borroughs, Nick Cave, Frank Zappa, Bryan Ferry, and many others.
Corbijn enters into the personality of the person he is photographing. In a single picture, often black and white, he is able to unravel the soul of his subject, and merge talent, personality and spirit. He is one of the most popular portrait photographers in the international star system. He works with top fashion magazines such as Vogue, Rolling Stone, Max, Glamour, Elle, and creates video-clips and cult album covers, such as Actung Baby (U2, 1991) and Ruttle and Hum (U2, 1988).
Corbijn is sought after by musicians and editors for his introspective photography. Bono Vox said of him: "Corbijn photographs the music rather than the musician".
His subjects are detached and serious, sometimes smiling. He does not use any technological tricks.
Corbijn captures the existential state and the charisma of his subject. He harnesses his subject's personality with an approach that goes beyond the traditional photographic portrait. The absolute talent of this great artist lies in his ability to capture the private, dark, deep side of the celebrities he photographs, revealing their humanity and their primary emotions.
In 2001 he exhibited Strippinggirls at the Galleria LipanjePuntin artecontemporanea in Trieste, returning there in 2003. The same year he had a personal exhibition at the Galleria d'Arte moderna in Bologna and the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover. In 2004 he had an important exhibition in Italy, at Palazzo Fortuny in Venice.
Corbijn says of his art: "I consider myself a very traditional photographer. I believe the strength of my photographs lies mainly in the moods and feelings I capture in the people I meet".

This exhibition is a joint initiative between Symphonia SGR and the Galleria LipanjePutin of Trieste, and is a confirmation of Symphonia SGR's commitment to art and an opportunity to create a direct link with the public.

The next event on the new Symphonia Arte Contemporanea 2004/2005 programme is personal exhibition of Maurizio Borzì's work, opening on November 17th.
