The Relaxed Audience
The Relaxed Audience or Why We Are So Wise is the last show at our Settles
Street space before relocating in the New Year.
This is a group show of talented young artist's work, all two-dimensional
and presented as a cluster on a wall that has been subjected to a relatively
significant architectural intervention.
The realisation of a solo project can be quite rewarding. The intentions of
the artist often mutate with the gallery's and the results can produce a
flowering of interest that hopefully gets reproduced in the viewer's
experience.
Though the purpose of a group show may seem at odds with the clear,
methodical repercussions induced in the viewer's apprehension of an
individual artist's work, its unique fascination cannot be denied. The
unintended coincidences, fragmentary messages and destruction of the
artwork's autonomy, that a group show produces are a stimulation. Before a
group of individual art works functioning collectively the eye is free to
roam and be, itself, productive. Above all the body transporting that
Å’tranquil eye' is at leisure. It is relaxed, allowing the mind its
interested participation.
