Recent Paintings
Modern Culture will present "Angelo Mosca: Recent Paintings," a solo exhibition
of oil paintings by Angelo Mosca.
"Angelo Mosca: Recent Paintings" will consist of Angelo Mosca's paintings of
interior views of his apartment in Milan.
This exhibition explores painting as a medium for conveying beauty and silence,
as well as material surface and levity.
Domesticity and aesthetics are the dominant themes of this body of work by
Angelo Mosca. Reminiscent of David Hockney in terms of subject matter and Luc
Tuymans with regard to technique, these works convey with tenderness and
intimacy the poetic qualities of a residence that serves as both a private
living space and as a public space to welcome visitors.
Angelo Mosca, who was born in Italy, lives and works in Milan. Earlier this
year, Angelo Mosca's paintings were featured in "Vernice: Pathways Through
Young Italian Painting," a group exhibition, curated by Francesco Bonami and
presented at Villa Manin Centre For Contemporary Art, Passariano, Italy. In
2002, Angelo Mosca's paintings were exhibited in the Prague Biennale. His work
also has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Naples, Milan, Turin,
Berlin, and London. This is Angelo Mosca's first solo exhibition in the United
States of America.
"Angelo Mosca: Recent Paintings" will open on the 23rd of November 2004 and
will remain on view through the 7th of January 2005.
Modern Culture is located at 730 Fifth Avenue, 9th Floor, (between 56th & 57th
