An International Art Exhibition and a Philosophical Symposium.
New York University Department of Art and Art
Professions and the Angel Orensanz Foundation present an international
exhibition of 44 artists with work developed along the concepts of
installation and deconstruction. The show runs from October 26 to Nov. 6 and
will occupy several galleries of the Foundation.
The opening will be marked with a symposium with four leading philosophers:
Jacques Derrida, Avital Ronell, Gayatri, and Slavoj Zizek.
A jury of artists, scholars and art professionals of New York has made the
selection of the participants. At the end of the show, three of them will be
distinguished with the awards of the III Angel Orensanz Foundation
Installation Art Award.
The basic themes of Derrida of rethinking borders of physical (architectural)
space and intellectual, cultural or historical categories is particularly
relevant to this Installation Art Award and to the Angel Orensanz Foundation
as a space and a concept. A vibrant arts center in the East Village of
Manhattan, the Foundation space (built in 1849) is both sacred and secular,
spiritual and intellectual historical and avant garde.
