The Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804-06 holds an unrivaled position in the imagination of the American mind. Utilizing three overarching themes of the Lewis and Clark expedition journals—place, race, and memory—to explore increasingly complex relationships between land and culture in the American West and across the country, the exhibition presents 75 recent works by 20 artists including painting, photography, video, and installation as well as contemporary works created in such traditional Native American techniques as carving, beadwork, and basketry.
