Impressions of Italy. Annual exhibition of student photographs
Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò will hold the opening of Abroad! Impressions of Italy, the first annual exhibit of student photographs on Wednesday, March 9th, 2005 at 6pm. The opening will be followed by a reception at the restaurant Piola, located at 48 East 12th Street. The exhibit will feature 30 photographs taken by New York University students while studying abroad in Florence, Italy though NYU’s Study Abroad program. It will be on display at Casa Italiana until April 8th, 2005.
Abroad! Impressions of Italy was born out of a desire to give more of a voice to NYU students by curators Julia Griner and Letizia La Rosa. The 30 photographs capture a romanticized view of Italy by students who spent anywhere from three months up to a year studying in Italy. They portray individual experiences and the beauty of the landscape and its people. Curators Letizia La Rosa and Julia Griner are perfectly suited to head up the show based on their backgrounds in the cultural fields and close links with Italy. Letizia La Rosa has been the Assistant Director at Casa Italiana since 2004; she spent the first part of her life in Italy, is an NYU graduate and has previously worked in marketing and public relations. Julia Griner is a photographer who focuses on humanitarian work, has lived for many years in Italy and has been a close collaborator with Casa Italiana since 2003; she also has a continued partnership with photographer BruceDavidson.
The exhibit will include photographs from 15 NYU students:
