Modern Culture will present "Roberta Bayley: Deborah Harry x 10," a solo exhibition of color photographs by Roberta Bayley from 16 March to 15 April 2005.

"Roberta Bayley: Deborah Harry x 10" will consist of ten color photographs, depicting Deborah Harry, the charismatic lead singer of Blondie, onstage, offstage, and backstage during the mid- to late 1970's. The American exhibition debut of these rarely seen photographs of this icon and everywoman, "Roberta Bayley: Deborah Harry x 10" will present authentic views of Deborah Harry within the now-mythical context of the American scene of the latter half of the 1970's.

Roberta Bayley, widely known for her photographs of the New York punk rock scene of the mid-1970's to early 1980's, is recognized for her effortlessly masterful portrayals of vernacular subject matter of transient monumentality. As the doorperson at CBGB's and the chief photographer of "Punk" Magazine, Roberta Bayley knew and befriended many of the musical artists and personalities who comprised New York's "blank generation"--Richard Hell, The Ramones, Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, Television, et. al., as well as those who came to America from England-- Joe Strummer; Elvis Costello, and The Sex Pistols.

Roberta Bayley, born in Pasadena and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, lives and works in New York. Her work is prominently featured in such notable books, as "Blank Generation Revisited: The Early Days Of Punk" (New York: Schirmer Books, 1997) and "Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History Of Punk" (New York: Grove Press, 1996). Roberta Bayley's work has been exhibited in New York; Long Island City; Washington, D.C.; Austin; St. Paul; Turin; Amsterdam; Paris; Birmingham, United Kingdom; Mexico City; and Sydney.

"Roberta Bayley: Deborah Harry x 10" will be the artist's third solo exhibition. This will be Roberta Bayley's second solo exhibition at Modern Culture.

An opening reception for "Roberta Bayley: Deborah Harry x 10" will take place on the 16th of March 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
