Albert Gleizes and Cubists

Galerie David, Bielefeld

In Paris 1910 – 1930. Gleizes is one of the leaders of the group 'La Section d'Or' founded by Jacques Villon. With his idea of a more dynamic cubism, he stimulates other painters such as Le Fauconnier, Roger de Fresnaye and Fernand Leger. This composition of futuristic dynamic and cubistic use of forms reaches its peak in the 'Compositions rythmees' (1931/32).

in Paris 1910 – 1930

Albert Gleizes belongs to the Cubists around Robert Delaunay and endeavours to find a theoretical explanation of this style in important texts. He begins to paint in the impressionist style. In 1908/09 under the influence of Henri Le Fauconnier and Jean Metzinger he turns to a geometrically simplified depiction and thus creates the, as they are called, 'Paysages classiques' (Landscape of the Propylaeum). In 1910 he joins the Cubists around Robert Delaunay. Soon he discovers his very own style in which he, quite similar to futurism, dismantles an object and arranges its elements rhythmically. Together with Metzinger he writes the book 'Du Cubisme', in an attempt to explain the analytical cubism in terms of epistemological concepts (time-space-relationship, fourth dimension, simultaneity). Gleizes is one of the leaders of the group 'La Section d'Or' founded by Jacques Villon. With his idea of a more dynamic cubism Gleizes stimulates other painters such as Le Fauconnier, Roger de Fresnaye and Fernand Léger. This composition of futuristic dynamic and cubistic use of forms reaches its peak in the 'Compositions rythmées' (1931/32).
