Lost
MB Fine Art Los Angeles presents the exhibition LOST: Photography by Rena
Bass Forman. This marks the first exhibition displaying works spanning
Forman's oeuvre over the last decade, including some never-before-seen
images. A reception for the artists and benefit concert for Sweet Relief
with live performance by Sugar Hill recording artist Grey DeLisle will open
the exhibition on Saturday, May 7.
Hailed by The New York Times as a 'landscape photographer with a finely
honed eye for sumptuous contrasts . . . as well as for the alchemic power of
light,' Forman's collective work commands the viewer's attention by offering
a visual trip to the remote corners of the world, capturing radiant moments
that would have otherwise passed by. Her persistent focus on the organic
shape of the landscapes simultaneously compares and contrasts varying
locales, and a further look is often necessary to realize that the settings
are located on opposite sides of the world, providing the viewer with the
exhilarating feeling of being LOST.
Known for her visually stunning, large format landscapes of exotic locales,
Forman travels the world over to find and preserve nature's most powerful
forces. Deeply toned, luminous images of the Niagara waterfalls, as well as
icebergs and volcanic hot springs in Iceland capture the power and beauty of
rushing water. Majestic seascapes from Italy, Big Sur and Cape Cod perfectly
capture the 'golden hour,' and the rugged landscape of Death Valley is
transformed into a serene and glowing atmosphere. In Patagonia, Chile,
Forman literally and metaphorically follows the light as it changes with
climatic shifts or according to the ebb and flow of the reflecting water.
Somewhere amidst the interplay of these conflicting forces, Forman finds the
fleeting moments that she patiently waits to capture.
Rena Bass Forman has been exhibited widely throughout the world. Her work is
in numerous museum and private collections. This is her first solo show at
MB Fine Art.
