Florence Lynch Gallery is pleased to present Quarter/Quartet an installation with Pino Ceriotti, Azelio Corni, Giorgio Faccincani, Antonio Maria Pecchini. The exhibition is on view from January 7 through January 22, 2000. An opening reception will be held at the gallery on Friday, January 7, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
In this installation the artists turn the gallery into a private space-into a home. In her essay Maddalena Mazzocut-Mis writes of the project:
"What we call human is the trace, the touch, the weak sign man leaves in things. It can be perceived more intensely in art, where touch merges with chance, with the unpredictable, with the extemporary solution, with time and space. Yet, during these spring evenings, when I took part in the formation of Antonio, Azelio and Pino’s artistic project, drinking wine and grappa after supper, I realized that a work of art is not just a reflection of what is human, but in its uniqueness it is quite and exclusively human. The works were not there, obviously. Or rather, they were in their stories. They will be, at the gallery. Still, in my mind, they are defined in their shapes, probably better than if I had seen them in a museum."
"The planning for this adventure started from the idea of the "home", not for living, but of the place, of the physical space between the wall which fills with life. The first issue is that this home is to be shared. It is hard to share. A home is by nature a space of privacy and affections. Guests, Sooner or later, leave a home. The occupants remain and they share. When there are four brothers in a house and the house is big, each one of them is given a different room. A world for each room. But if that is impossible, the space becomes a place for exchanges"
Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday 11:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday by appointment. For further information and photographic material please contact the gallery at 967-7584.
