The Size of It
British artist Richard Deacon will begin the european tour of his exhibition "The
Size of It" at Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain) on next June 1 (press conference at 11.30,
opening at 20.00). The exhibition has been produced by ARTIUM de Ãlava (Vitoria,
Spain), Sara Hilden Museum (Tampere, Finland) and Hans Arp Museum (Remagen,
Germany), with the coopertaion of the artist. As a member of the so called "fourth
generation" of the new british sculpture, Richard Deacon is nowadays one of the most
outstanding sculptors in Europe.
The special feature of this show, which differs from most sculpture exhibitions, is
the presentation of four large pieces of work done over the last fifteen years from
different material and conceptual perspectives. This exhibition might be seen as a
very synthetic retrospective that challenges the spectator to discover the links
that connect the works on show. The presentation of a few pieces of smaller-size
pottery, a large ensemble of clay mock-ups and a selection of drawings, all of which
are more recent, provide some indication of the specific issues that interest this
artist at the present time.
Catalogue of the exhibition, with texts by Raimund Stecker (director of Hans Arp
Museum), and Timo Valjakka (art critic), plus an interview between Richard Deacon
and Javier González de Durana (director of ARTIUM)
