After Hopper: Luca Pagliari and Others
The solitude, calmness, detail and absolute attention to the moment define paintings by Edward Hopper. Our intention is to show a “Hopperesque†spirit in photographs. Featured will be new works by Luca Pagliari whose palette of colors and ethos mimics Hopper paintings, Merry Alpern’s “Dirty Windows†series, showing prostitutes gazing out of windows, and images of Penn Station in 1958 by Louis Stettner. Prostitutes by Jean-Christian Bourcart. Row houses by Berenice Abbott, as well as ballet dancers by Mary McCartney. Work by Joe Johnson, who studied with Abelardo Morell and others at the Massachusetts College of Art, will also be included.

In the Red Room:
Maximum Beauty: Leonard Nimoy
A departure from “Shekinah,†his celebrated series of nudes that explored feminine power using models of the “classic†body type, here photographer/ director/actor Leonard Nimoy presents female power of an altogether different variety—joyful images of women from the burlesque team known as the “Fat Bottom Revue.†After showing the ladies two classic nudes by Herb Ritts and Helmut Newton, Nimoy asked them to present themselves in response to the poses those images suggested. His photos reveal proud, self-confident women who delight in their size and shape, and challenge society’s rigid definition of beauty.
