Sunday July 3 at 14.00 hours the exhibition "Island" will open on
Schiermonnikoog, the smallest inhabited Dutch Wadden Sea island. In the
exhibition work is shown by Jem Southam (GB), John Gossage (USA), Angelika
Barz (D), the South Korean photographer Jehsong Baak and the Dutch
photographers Gerco de Ruijter, Ton Broekhuis en Leo Divendal.
"Island" is de facto not a Noorderlicht-project, but we are involved in
several ways, e.g. as publisher of the catalogue. The project was
commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality
and organised by Eddie Marsman (photography-journalist and Noorderlicht
co-operator) and Jan Abrahamse, former editor of Noorderbreedte magazine.
The exhibition is part of a project called Schiermonnikoog Recognisably
Different, set up to draw attention to the 10th International Governmental
Conference on the Wadden Sea, which will be held on the island November 2
and 3.
The seven photographers spend several weeks on the island in the spring of
2005 and let themselves be inspired by life, light and landscape of
Schiermonnikoog.
On the inside of the cover of the catalogue "Island" there are collages of
amateur photographs, made by the inhabitants of the island as part of an
other exhibition Marsman and Abrahamse organised for the Schiermonnikoog
Recognisable Different-project.
