Video Screening

For the special screening by Nataša Petrešin within the e-flux project Video Rental at Kunst-Werke in Berlin, videos by The Otolith Group, Naeem Mohaiemen, Caecilia Tripp, Akram Zaatari, Jakup Ferri, Sislej Xhafa, Bjargey Ólafsdóttir and Polonca Lovsin, and excerpts from the video by Vlatka Horvat & Tim Etchells and from the documentary film by Igor Zupe will be shown. Slavoj Žižek describes late global capitalism as being already its own destruction, which is no longer self-centred stable system perturbed by interferences, but maintains itself as a precarious system through incessant self-revolutionising, where instability is its very strength. The screened works do not only directly intervene into their respective contexts and realities with the goal to change them, but in various ways question hegemonic ideological coordinates lying behind those contexts. They deal with the potential of either small scale interventions into the public sphere or ongoing socio-cultural phenomena that disturb and reconstitute the existing social and political relationships.

Nataša Petrešin is an independent curator and critic, based in Ljubljana. In 2003 she was an assistant curator at the exhibition "In the Gorges of the Balkans", Museum Fridericianum, Kassel. In 2002 she participated at the Curatorial Training Programme at De Appel Foundation in Amsterdam. In 2001 she was assistant curator at the Slovene pavilion at 49th Venice Biennial. She has curated exhibitions, a.o. "Participation: Nuisance or Necessity?" (2005, Iaspis Galleriet, Stockholm), "Our House Is A House That Moves" (2003, Pavelhaus, Laafeld; 2004, Škuc Gallery, Ljubljana), "You Are Not Alone" (2002, Pavelhaus, Laafeld), "Sound in Art" (2001, Gallery Priestor, Bratislava), and a series of sound events "RE-LAX" (with Marko Peljhan, 2001-2002, Ljubljana). She has held presentations and lectures (a.o. in Kassel, Maastricht, New York, Ljubljana, London, UC Irvine/CA, Istanbul, Stockholm), and been publishing articles on contemporary and new media art in catalogues and in Parkett Magazine, Manifesta Journal, Printed Project, NU: The Nordic Art Review, Springerin, Arco Magazine, Acoustic Lab Reader, Framework: The Finnish Art Review, Maska. She is a contributing editor of online review ARTMargins. In 2002 she co-founded a label for experimental electronic music, "rx:tx". Since 2004 she is the president of the jury for intermedia arts at Ministry of Culture of Republic of Slovenia. In 2004 she co-organized conference "Public vs Private. Cultural policies and art market in Central and South Eastern Europe" (with Gregor Podnar, Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana) and edited its publication.
