Le Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean - un chantier en images

Opening a museum designed by such a great architect as Ieoh Ming Pei implies a need to keep track of its construction. To this obvious fact is added an interest in the site on which the architect chose to establish the museum. It had not been expected that the building site, which was started in 2000, would only finish in 2006, but that all the more has made it possible for Pierre-Olivier Deschamps to provide a very rich work on this subject. Indeed, it is rare to be able to benefit from such continuous access to a building site which can therefore show in detail, as in this case, the spectacular architectural stages: the passage between the historical walls and the new foundations, the technical feats, such as the in situ moulding of the archways in the exhibition spaces of the first level with its zenithal lighting, or the colour of the concrete in perfect harmony with that of the stone, as in the quality of the work of all the enterprises so clearly evident throughout the project.

All this is visible in the photographs of Pierre-Olivier Deschamps and I will leave it to Christian Caujolle to introduce more fully the work that has been carried out in Luxembourg.

As for the images of Andre Weisgerber, documentary corpus, they stress the technical evolutions of Ieoh Ming Pei's architectural project.

Thus before moving in to the museum, which will open its doors in 2006, the "un chantier en images" (a building site in images) project brings to a logical conclusion the program of the Foundation at Mudam Camp de Base with our faithful partner the Banque de Luxembourg, and offers each visitor the desire to compare the photographer's point of view with his own.
