Brooklyn Fire Proof is pleased to announce 'A Vestigial Trigger,' new works by
Brooklyn-based artist John McGarity. Departing from formal abstraction,
McGarity's new body of work introduces direct emotional elements: Posturing,
aggression, and resignation, are devices used to illustrate the parabolic arc
of anger and frustration. McGarity retains gesture and surface as key elements
of his work, while emotional elements suggest darker perspectives.
t s Beall is a video artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. Her work explores the
iconographic nature of the photographic image, the way the image transfers
value to the subject, and the optics of perception. She is currently working
with the idea of looping, filming subjects that have their own circuitous
movement. Beall will be presenting several new works, including one shot on an
Italian express train, which features an audio soundtrack by Mary Bellamy (UK)
and Peter Verwimp (Belgium).
Maya Hayuk is part of the Barnstormers group that brings graffiti-esque murals
to rural communities. Spinning patterns in an anamnetically familiar
commodity-palette, Maya's pieces have a rigorous conceptual underpinning that
is not always readily obvious. In the project room, Hayuk will be showing a
selection of her smaller works on paper.
