Art Forum Berlin - International Fair for Contemporary Art – celebrates its 10th anniversary and opens its doors in just a few days on September 28th, 2005. A series of extraordinary stand concepts and individual presentations set the accents which make Art Forum Berlin the most fascinating and innovative fair dedicated to contemporary art. The Berlin Senate for Economics’ "Project Future" will honour conceptual achievement of participants by donating two prizes for the best gallery stands.

Works by more than 1,500 artists from all genres of contemporary visual art will be on view, presented by 129 galleries from 25 countries from four continents. More collectors, curators, and critics than ever before as well as over 40 museum delegations from around the globe have announced their visit to the fair and Europe’s most exciting art metropolis - Berlin.

Always alive with a selection of prominent galleries and the most interesting of the emerging generation, this year's Art Forum Berlin offers an abundance of must-haves:

Sculpture and installation is amazingly present this time, highlights are: Martin Boyce (Johnen, Berlin), Antal Lakner (Elbaz, Paris and Podnar, Ljuljana), Joëlle Tuerlinckx (Lohaus, Antwerp and Schmela, Duesseldorf), Hans op de Beeck (ronmandos, Rotterdam), Bigert & Bergström (Milliken, Stockholm and Thumm, Berlin) Mark Titchner (Peres Projects Los Angeles/Berlin; Upstream, Amsterdam and Vilma Gold, London), Dearraindrop (Kavi Gupta, Chicago), Nir Alon (Chelouche, Tel Aviv), Carlos Garaicoa (Habana, Havanna) and Pedro Cabrita Reis (Haunch of Venison, London). Also strongly featured this year are conceptual positions with Dan Graham (Dvir, Tel Aviv; Johnen, Berlin & Mayer, Munich), Robert Barry (Bugdahn & Kaimer, Duesseldorf; Gasser & Grunert, New York and SfeirSemler, Hamburg/Beirut), Barry LeVa (Judin, Zurich), Santiago Sierra (Helga de Alvear Madrid), Lawrence Weiner and Matt Mullican (Klosterfelde, Berlin; Kargl, Vienna; Widauer, Innsbruck). Painting stars with Adam Adach, Douglas Kolk (Arndt & Partner, Berlin), Wawrzyniec Tokarski (Meyer, Karlsruhe, Nosbaum&Reding, Luxemburg and Wentrup, Berlin), Peter Doig (Contemporary Fine Arts Berlin and Knust, Munich), Cosima von Bonin (Nagel Cologne/Berlin and Crone, Berlin) and of course with Matthias Weischer and Tim Eitel (Eigen +Art, Berlin & Leipzig). Film and video highlights are Venice Biennale shooting star Francesco Vezzoli (NEU, Berlin), Marcel Odenbach (Crone/Osarek, Berlin), Janet Cardiff& George Bures Miller (Weiss, Berlin) and Eve Sussman (Roebling Hall, Brooklyn). Photography convinces with a wide range from young Nordic photographers to the intriguing Atelier Morales (Menocal, Mexico City), well know positions like Axel Hütte (Akinci, Amsterdam; artfinder, Hamburg; Knaus, Mannheim; Tolksdorf, Frankfurt), Ori Gersht (Noga, Tel Aviv) and Yasumasa Morimura (Ropac, Salzburg/Paris) topped by masters of classical photography like Lee Friedlaender (Kicken Berlin) and Lewis Baltz (Zander, Cologne). Works on paper impress by the winner of Venice Biennial’s Golden Lion Thomas Schütte (carlier | gebauer, Berlin; Knust, Munich and Produzentengalerie, Hamburg), Simon English (Fred, London and Diehl, Berlin) and Marcel Dzama (Sies+Höke, Düsseldorf and Perugi, Padua).

The package is completed by Art Forum Berlin’s signature site-specific artist lounges by Costa Vece, Jeroen Jacobs, Slawomir Elsner, Clemens von Wedemeyer, Lisa Junghanss and Marcel Buehler and the fair's second special exhibition Temporary Import: DAAD, Bethanien et. al. For the luscious 2000 sqm exhibition space designed by Danish artist Simon Dybbroe Moller, curator Susanne Titz, Director of the Museum Abteiberg Moenchengladbach, chose 47 international artists. The works of the artists, all of whom over the past ten years have been or are still living and working in Berlin, promise an exclusive and revelatory perspective on the international art production in an ever vibrant Berlin.

Visitors can expect five inspiring fair days with 10 excellent Art Forum Berlin Talks featuring renowned international art experts and a parallel program full of highlights. Robert Storr, designated Artistic Director of 52nd Venice Biennale 2007 will be discussing with colleagues Massimiliano Gioni (4th berlin biennial 2006), Jack Persekian ( 7th Sharjah Biennial 2005) as well as Anton Vidokle (Co-curator 6th Manifesta 2006 in Nicosia) and Osvaldo Sanchez (In Site, Tijuana/San Diego). Marc Spiegler investigates Investment Rate Art with Philip Hoffman of the Fine Art Fund, ICA Board member Ian Charles Stewart, collector Tim Nye and others. Further panelists include Nicolaus Schafhausen, director of European Kunsthalle Cologne, Jan-Erik Lundstroem, curator 1st Photography Festival Berlin, Kestutis Kuizinas, director of the CAC in Vilnius and critic and scholar David Galloway.

Berlin's institutions beckon with intriguing exhibitions by international artists parallel to the 10th Art Forum Berlin: Solo shows by Shirin Neshat and Katherina Sieverding will open during the fair, with Helsinki School - A New Approach fresh photography is on view at Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien, Douglas Gordon curated for Deutsche Guggenheim, while the last days of the Goya – Prophet of Modernity and the then brand new, second exhibition from the Friedrich Christian Flick Collection expect you at the Rieck Halls of Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum for Contemporary Art.

But that is not all, the evenings after the fair hours will be busy with a multitude of openings, receptions and events all over Berlin, one of the highlights will be the Art Forum Berlin Birthday Party on September 30th powered by CTM at Berlin’s notorious Café Moskau club featuring visuals and sounds by KODI (NL) Richard Davies (UK/DE), Liebe ist Cool + Telematique & LFT (DE), Mo (DE) and others.
