Like earlier paintings, this new body of work, comprising 11 slick and diminutive panels, utilizes a cool palette that is at once both discomfortingly quiet and mysterious. And while there is a seemingly looser touch to Olsen's painting this go round, the works are decidedly filmic, as if stills from the masterworks of the French New Wave.
Caution
Plane Space is delighted to present an exhibition of new paintings by Robert Olsen. The exhibition, Olsen's second solo show at the gallery, is titled Caution, and will be on view from October 13th through November 13th with a reception for the artist on Thursday evening, October 13th, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Olsen continues to work from his own photographs, however, creating intimate, highly precise oil paintings of a seemingly disparate group of subjects: headless mannequins, a bathroom towel, a swimming pool, a bound and gagged woman in the trunk of an automobile.
Robert Olsen received his M.F.A. from the University of California in Los Angeles and his B.F.A. from the California College of Arts and Crafts. In addition to exhibiting regularly in Los Angeles, Olsen has recently shown in Washington D.C., Toronto and Mexico City. Among the publications that he has been featured in are The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, L.A. Weekly, Harper¹s Magazine, Tema Celeste, Art/Text, Art Issues, Artnet and Artforum.com.
Opening Reception: Thursday, October 13th, 6Â8 p.m.
