This fall season, Chelsea's Remy Toledo Gallery will continue presenting artists that ponder contemporary social and political issues with Tolerance-In-Tolerance, the new solo exhibition of Italian artist Federica Marangoni.
The collection of installation, photography, and sculpture is hosted in after an acclaimed exhibition at the CÃrculo de Bellas Artes in . With an introduction to the catalog written by Jeff Nathanson, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Princeton University, this exhibition is curated by Asher Remy-Toledo.
The exhibition's evocative title, Tolerance-In-Tolerance, is a meditation on the nature of tolerance standing within the realities of intolerance expressed through the media of neon, glass, photographs and video. These pieces show images from current social situations taken from journalists' reports on contemporary conflicts.
Her work with the modular structure of glass elements was exhibited in 's Biennale in 1970. Il Corpo reconstruito, a performance in which Federica Marangoni's body parts were cast in solid polyester, took place in in 1975. After 1978 she achieved international success when her performance Interrogation and film The Box of Life were exhibited at the in .
In the 1980s, her works were shown in 's Museo Reina Sofia, the Triennale in Milán, Fine Arts Museum and the in .
In recent years, Federica Marangoni introduced electric light into her conceptual works including the Electronic Rainbow for the 1997 Biennale in , where multicolored Murano glass sheets drip over a rusted iron screen.
Tolerance- In-Tolerance is not Marangoni's first exhibition at the Remy Toledo Gallery. She also participated in the collective exhibition Guess Who´s Coming to Dinner, dedicated to feminist art, in the company of such accomplished artists as Ana Mendieta, Judy Chicago, Marcia Grostein, Monika Weiss, Sara Modiano, Mary Beth Edelson and Carolee Schneemann.
