To coincide with Frieze Art Fair and Zoo 2005, temporarycontemporary presents a site-specific exhibition of video works in The Albany bar by Regents Park.

The 10 works in this custom installation act like sportsbar corruptions; they are strange transmissions, broadcasts that gate-crash the familiar expectations of the social drinking space.

The selected artists in Video Cocktail examine their own relationship to public performance and video art. Through a form of media detachment the artists imbibe a flickering world of cinema, pop videos, starlets, daytime TV and family entertainment; they re-consider, cognisant of the historical tropes of performance film, their feelings towards the mainstream.

Some of the works embrace their media through layered reference, re-editing and re-performing, whilst others turn instead to depictions of staged and recorded events that operate more in a low-fi or home video mode.

The siting of the exhibition continues an investigation into what could constitute a social/art space, an experiment that has so far included group shows of artist poker playing (Coalesce, at Redux), large Fleamarket shows at temporarycontemporary, and proposals for building temporary pool halls in Shanghai.
